Why the garden

Before care becomes a crisis

In many families, conversations about ageing and care begin only when something goes wrong: a fall, a diagnosis, a sudden decision about who will care for whom. By then, there is little room left for listening.

JUNG ONE: The Garden asks how families can prepare earlier. It opens questions about care, distance, memory, responsibility and personal boundaries while there is still time to talk them through gently.

A garden is never finished at once; it grows when it is tended over time. So do these conversations. The name JUNG ONE holds two meanings: 정원 (jeongwon), the Korean word for garden, and 정-원, a circle, for conversations you can always return to.

The system

One Garden,
Two Ways to Tend

Adult children and ageing parents can begin at the same table or from different countries. Both ways lead to the same garden.

Whether a family meets at the table or across countries, the moments they choose to keep return to the same garden, where they can revisit and continue.

Where does your flower belong?

A Flower for You is a participatory activity connected to JUNG ONE: The Garden. A moment of listening can become the beginning of a conversation about care.

Share → Listen → Draw → Grow

Listen to someone's story, then draw a flower inspired by it directly on the Shared Garden board in The Social Hub restaurant. Flower by flower, the garden grows.

Jiwon Hyun · Z1

Media Artist & Social Designer · Working between Seoul and Eindhoven

Jiwon Hyun (Z1) creates participatory systems that open space for difficult social conversations. Her practice explores care and relationships through research, artistic experimentation, and collective experiences.

JUNG ONE: The Garden is her graduation project at Design Academy Eindhoven, Social Design MA.
